Hiking through the Julian Alps in winter is magical. The air is fresh and cold, the high spruces are nicely decorated with snow patches, and the white landscape is all sparkly and glittering. Snow-covered mountains are the place to be when finding total peace and serenity. Walking through the icy landscapes can be very difficult if you don’t have the right equipment. That’s why it’s good to have microspikes wherever you go in winter. You just put them on your shoes and overcome the slippery parts of the path. In our office in Bled, you can find all sorts of alpine equipment rental, even the specific mountaineering gear that is essential for your type of hiking.
More information about equipment rental
Where do you need microspikes?
– Microspikes provide excellent traction on icy and gently sloping terrain.
– They come in very handy when walking through winter landscapes, where terrain changes frequently.
– You can also use them to tackle small hills, as long as the terrain is safe and free from steep drops or serious hazards.
– Remember, microspikes are not designed for high-altitude mountains or steep slopes—for those conditions, crampons are the better choice.
How do you put microspikes on?
That’s very easy because of the stretching rubber band where microspikes are attached.
– First, you put the rubber band on the front of your shoe and align it correctly.
– Second, stretch the rubber band all the way to the back, as high to the ankle as possible.
– Third, fasten the Velcro strap over the top of your shoes.
– Last, check that the spikes on the sole are not wobbly but firm.
