What to Expect on the Pokljuka Plateau E-Bike Tour 🚵♀️
Your journey begins in Bled, where you’ll meet your guide, get fitted with a high-quality e-bike and helmet, and receive a short safety briefing. Once ready, you’ll start pedalling straight from Bled and gradually ascend into Triglav National Park, following quiet backroads and forest trails that reveal Slovenia’s alpine charm at every turn.
Leaving Bled: Forest Roads and Village Charm
The ride begins with a scenic route through traditional villages like Zasip and Spodnje Gorje, where you’ll pass farmlands, stone chapels, and the turquoise Radovna River. As the road climbs, the landscape transitions into lush spruce forests and alpine meadows. Thanks to your e-bike, the uphill sections are easy and enjoyable.
Reaching Pokljuka: Slovenia’s Highest Mountain Plateau
After a comfortable ascent, you’ll arrive on the Pokljuka Plateau—a pristine alpine karst landscape sitting at over 1,200 metres above sea level. Here, nature unfolds in all directions: mossy forests, open pastures, and panoramic views.
📍 Stop 1: Pokljuka Wetlands (Barje Šijec)
Your first major stop is the Pokljuka wetlands, a protected high-altitude bog that formed after the last Ice Age. A short wooden boardwalk trail leads you through this fragile ecosystem, where you can see bog mosses, alpine flowers, and even carnivorous plants like sundews. Educational signs explain the unique biodiversity and importance of this habitat in the Triglav National Park.
📍 Stop 2: Zajamniki Alpine Pasture
Next, you’ll ride through forest trails to Zajamniki, one of the most iconic alpine pastures in Slovenia. A line of fairytale-like wooden shepherd huts stretches along a ridge with spectacular views of the Bohinj Valley and Julian Alps. This is a perfect photo opportunity and a great place to enjoy a short break.
📍 Stop 3: Uskovnica Meadow
Continue cycling through peaceful gravel roads to reach Uskovnica, a highland pasture dotted with rustic huts and grazing livestock. On clear days, the meadow opens to dramatic views of Mount Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak. This is a perfect location for a light snack break or picnic (optional).
📍 Stop 4: Rudno Polje
The final stop is Rudno Polje, a wide open alpine field and a popular hub for hiking and biathlon training. It marks one of the primary starting points for ascents to Triglav and is steeped in outdoor sporting culture.
Return Descent to Bled
After exploring the highlights of Pokljuka, you’ll begin a relaxed descent back to Bled, riding through shaded forest roads and stopping at scenic points along the way. Your guide may add a hidden viewpoint or secret local stop, depending on group interest. You’ll finish the tour back in Bled, having cycled through one of Slovenia’s most magical mountain landscapes—no van required!
