What to expect?
From Bled, we will drive to the 1300 metres of high Pokljuka plateau, covered with mystic spruce forests and pastures. After 1 hour of hiking, we will first reach the Bled mountain cottage on Lipanca, where we can have a short break for coffee or tea. From here, we will continue on a route towards the summit of Mt. Debela peč, which runs mostly through dwarf pines and takes about 1:30 hours.
The 2014-metre-high mountain Debela peč is one of the most popular destinations for hikers. With a grassy top and a domed shape, it is the easternmost peak in the mountain range, ending the Pokljuka plateau and falling steeply into the alpine Krma Valley.
Stopover at Bled mountain cottage
On the way down, we will make a stop at the Bled mountain cottage. The hut is located on the edge of the panoramic mountain pasture Lipanca at an altitude of 1630 metres. From the hut the magnificent views open to vast Pokljuka forests and the peaks of Mrežce and Lipanski vrh that surround the mountain. Here you can relax, use the restrooms or try traditional Slovenian food, such as jota, minestrone with sausage and homemade strudel.
From the hut, we will need around 30 minutes to descend down to the starting point. The guide will drive you back to Bled.
