What to expect on a Panoramic hike?
Tour starting points – Medvedova konta and mountain pasture Planina Zajavornik
From our headquarters in Bled, we will drive to 1400 meters high and with forests and pastures covering the Pokljuka plateau, where the best Julian Alps trail starts to the top of the Mt. Debela peč with a stopover at a Bled mountain hut. There are two different starting points for the guided tour from the Pokljuka plateau. A Julian Alps hiking trail from Medvedova konta is a bit shorter as we will park the car at higher altitudes. In this direction, we will walk to the hut through a magnificent forest.
The Julian Alps hiking trail also runs from mountain pasture Planina Zajavornik or Javornik, where the tour starts. This route will lead us across a vast mountain in the heart of Pokljuka forests. The tour across pasture Planina Zajavornik offers one of the best day hikes in the Julian Alps, as here you will be able to see cows grazing during the summer months, old wooden shepherds’ cottages and traditional cheese dairy. The hike offers breathtaking views of the peaks of the high mountains like Mt. Viševnik, Mt. Draški vrh and most of the tops above the Lipanca mountain pasture.
Panoramic views from the top of Mt. Debela peč
Whether we start the Julian Alps hiking trail from Medvedova konta or mountain pasture Planina Zajavornik, we will first reach the Bled mountain cottage on Lipanca. From here, we will continue on a route towards the summit of Mt. Debela peč, which runs mostly through dwarf pines and takes about 1:30 hours.
The 2014-meter-high mountain Debela peč is one of the most popular destinations for hikers, as it is a relatively easily accessible two-thousand-meter mountain with a well-marked Julian Alps hiking trail leading to the summit. Mt. Debela peč with a grassy top and a domed shape is the easternmost peak in the mountain range, ending the Pokljuka plateau and falling steeply into the alpine Krma Valley.
This guided tour offers one of the best day hikes in the Julian Alps with the most stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the alpine landscape. From the top, the beautiful views open to Mt. Triglav, which proudly stands as the highest mountain in Slovenia. Views also open to the majestic peaks of the Karavanke Mountains with the highest summit of Mt. Stol and towards the Mojstrana and Krma Valley.

Stopover at Bled mountain cottage
On the best Julian Alps trail, we will make a stop at the Bled mountain cottage. The hut is located on the edge of the panoramic mountain pasture Lipanca at an altitude of 1630 meters. This part of the Julian Alps hiking trail is excellent for making a stopover. From the hut the magnificent views open to Pokljuka forests and the peaks of Mrežce and Lipinski vrh that surround the mountain.
The Bled mountain hut is one of the few in this part of the Alps that is open all year round. Here you can rest, go to the toilet or try traditional Slovenian food, such as jota, minestrone with sausage and homemade strudel.
The Julian Alps hiking trail is suitable for everyone
The Julian Alps hiking trail from Pokljuka plateau to Mt. Debela peč is technically undemanding and easily accessible in both directions. The tour is also suitable for beginners and families with children. Our guide will lead you on the most stunning panoramic trails and help you discover the hidden spots of unspoiled alpine nature. Will adjust the tour on a Julian Alps hiking trail to your wishes, abilities, and fitness. You can also wait for the rest of the hikers at the Bled mountain hut and rest here until the others come back.
