What to expect?
Your guide can pick you up in front of our office, your accommodation in Bled or at an agreed place in the direction of the Kranjska Gora or Italian border. You will drive all the way to Italy, that’s why you will need to have your passport with you. Passing the amazing Lake Predil, you will soon reach Slovenia’s border again. After a short drive through the Predil mountain pass, you will turn left to the scenic and winding road that leads all the way up to the Mangart Saddle. You will park by the hut and prepare yourself for the via ferrata climb.
Ascending to Mangart via the Slovenian ferrata route
From the Mangart saddle, you will start your hike towards the east, passing a panoramic ridge. After around 30 minutes of hiking, you will reach the crossing of Slovenian and Italian via ferrata route. You will head up for the Slovenian route and traverse a scree slope when finally reaching the beginning of a climbing path. Here, the guide will explain the basic techniques for climbing on protected vertical walls and show you how to fit the equipment correctly.
Then the fun part begins. You will climb up a fixed rope route on the most panoramic vertical walls of Mangart mountain, accompanied by spectacular drops, that will definitely fill you with lots of adrenaline. The guide will keep you safe in a short-roped party. After around 1,5 hours of climbing, you will finally reach the top of Mangart, where you can enjoy the endless views over Slovenian and Italian Julian Alps, the beautiful emerald Soča river valley, and if the weather permits, you can also see the Adriatic sea and the Triestan port.
Descending to Mangart saddle via the Italian ferrata route
After a short break for snacks and photos at the top, you will descend through the Italian side of the mountain, via Italian ferrata. This ferrata is easier to climb down, but you will still be accompanied by a rope by our guide. Soon you will reach a regular hiking path. After around 2 hours of descending, you will come back to Mangart Saddle. You can change here into something more comfortable before heading back to Bled, which takes around 1,5 hours.
