We’ll meet in our offices in downtown Bled. Then we will drive to the starting point of a tour. You can talk to your guide where you would prefer to go, as we can customize the snowshoeing Bled tour to your preferences.

The guided hike usually takes about 6 hours, as time depends on where you are going. All starting points are around 30 minutes to 1 hour away by car. Some of the best snowshoe trails are in the areas:

•  The Pokljuka plateau in the Julian Alps is especially wonderful when covered in snow. You will hike through spruce forests and diverse terrain across the plateau. At Javorniška mountains, you will have wonderful views of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps.
•  Kranjska Gora with valleys such as Krnica, Radovna Valley and Upper Sava River Valley.
•  Tamar Valley: near the Planica Nordic Center
•  Soča River Valley, especially Trenta Valley, snowy plains near Log pod Mangartom, valley in Bovec area
•  Lake Bohinj Valley with surrounding hills

Equipment– snowshoes and hiking poles

At the starting point of the snowshoeing Slovenia tour, you will get snowshoes and hiking poles. You can easily fasten the snowshoes to hiking boots and then pull tight with safety straps. Snowshoes are meant for walking on a thicker snow blanket since the larger bottom surface prevents sinking deep into the snow, and metal cogs on the sides prevent slipping on more icy terrain. Hiking poles will help you when walking uphill and downhill.

What to wear for a snowshoeing Bled tour?

For snowshoeing Bled, you need warm sportswear that will protect you from the cold. It is good that the clothes are made of waterproof materials so that you won’t get wet. For the most comfortable hike with snowshoes in the beautiful snowy alpine landscape, you also need:

•   Beanie, gloves
•   Sun cream if it’s going to be a very sunny day
•   High hiking boots that support the ankles
•   Warm ski socks
•   Gaiters with a waterproof membrane to keep snow from getting into your shoes

Learning some basic techniques for walking in snowshoes

On a snowshoeing Slovenia tour, the guide will teach you some basic techniques for hiking in snowshoes. This will help you to learn how to properly climb and descend on different terrains, how to walk in an arch or circle, and how to cross a slope. You will learn these skills very quickly. The guide will also take care of your safety at all times and guide you along the trails covered in snow.

What to expect from a guided hike with snowshoes?

Snowshoeing Slovenia is an excellent opportunity for everyone who would like to explore the magical winter wonderland in the heart of the Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps. With snowshoes on, you will walk through deep and soft snow blanket and discover hidden places in the Slovenian highlands and alpine valleys.

This outdoor activity is a great winter workout that gives strong heartbeat and intense body strengthening. Discover the charms of alpine nature in winter and join us on an unforgettable snowshoeing Bled adventure as you glide silently through the snow in the fresh mountain air.

Best time for going on a winter hike

We meet in our offices in the early morning hours, as snow-covered alpine nature is most beautiful in the morning when the sun is high in the sky. Snowshoeing Slovenia tour is available from December to April or when there is enough snow. In case there is not enough snow in the alpine valleys, you will go on a hike on higher altitudes, such as the Pokljuka plateau at 1000 to 1300 meters above sea level.

Snowshoeing

Winter activity for all ages and all ability levels

Guided winter hike with snowshoes is suitable for everyone, even for the youngest and the elderly. Since you can book a tour for a bigger group or join a group, the whole trip through deep snow in a winter wonderland will be even more fun.

Snowshoeing Bled tour is also suitable for people in poor shape, as the climbs and descents are not difficult. We will adjust the hiking speed to your abilities, the complexity of the terrain and the snow, since a snow blanket can be only a few centimeters thick or up to half a meter or higher.
