Experience big rappels in a stunning alpine canyon — no full-day commitment required.

Predelica Canyon’s Upper Section is one of Slovenia’s most rewarding canyoning experiences for
adventurers who want technical challenges, dramatic rappels, and alpine scenery — all within a half-day
adventure. Located inside Triglav National Park in the heart of the Soča Valley, just minutes from the
Italian border at Predel Pass, this is canyoning at its most spectacular.

The highlight? A breathtaking 30-metre final rappel — one of the biggest single drops in Slovenian canyoning.

What’s Included

  • Professional certified guide
  • All canyoning equipment (wetsuit, helmet, harness, ropes)
  • Safety briefing and technical instruction
  • Triglav National Park canyoning permit

What to Expect

Your adventure begins with a 25-minute downhill hike from the parking area to the canyon entrance — one of the easiest approaches in Slovenia. Once inside, you’ll work your way through a series of increasingly impressive features:

  • Slides, jumps and pools to warm up
  • A via ferrata traverse with safety clipping
  • A 12-metre rappel in slide position
  • A 14-metre rappel into water
  • A 23-metre rappel
  • The grand finale: a 30-metre rappel — the longest drop of the upper section

After completing the final rappel, a 35–50 minute uphill hike brings you back to Predel Pass, with a short 10-minute walk across the aerial bridge to your car. No shuttle required — this is a clean circular route.

Total time in and around the canyon: approximately 3–4 hours.

Fun Facts About Predelica Canyon & Predel Pass

🟢 Home of the Emerald Eye Deep inside the canyon lies Smaragdno Oko — the Emerald Eye — a famous emerald-green pool that is one of the most photogenic spots in the entire Julian Alps. You’ll swim through it.

💦 30 metres of pure freefall The final rappel drops a full 30 metres — taller than a 9-storey building. It’s one of the biggest single rappels in Slovenian canyoning and the moment every guest remembers.

🎿 Ice climbers come here in winter When the waterfalls freeze, Predelica transforms into an ice climbing destination attracting climbers from Slovenia, Austria and Italy. In summer, you abseil the same falls.

🏔️ The canyon has a giant neighbour From the exit hike you’ll see Loška Stena — an enormous rock face rising nearly 1,000 metres above the valley. One of the largest in Slovenia, it makes for a dramatic backdrop as you walk out.

🛝 Bigger slides, with ropes Some of the slides inside the canyon are slippery enough to require rope assistance — not for safety but for speed control. It’s one of the more unusual and fun features you won’t find in most canyons.

🌍 You canyon on an international border Predel Pass at 1,156 metres connects Slovenia with Italy. The canyon sits in the shadow of the pass — meaning on a clear day you’re effectively canyoning between two countries.

⚔️ A route used since the 14th century The road over Predel Pass dates back to the 1300s, used for trade, military campaigns, and World War I logistics. The Austro-Hungarian Fort Hermann and Predel Fortress — built to defend against Italy — still stand guard over the valley today.

🏔️ Surrounded by giants Mount Mangart rises to the north, the Kanin massif dominates the south, and Slovenia’s highest road — the Mangart Saddle Road reaching 2,055 metres — begins just below the pass.

⛏️ A secret tunnel beneath your feet A 4.5 km mining tunnel called Štoln runs beneath Predel Pass, built in the early 1900s for miners working lead and zinc mines across the Italian border. During World War I it supplied the entire Isonzo Front.
