Kayaking Bovec daily tours
Our meeting point is in the industrial area of the Alpine town of Bovec. We kindly ask you to arrive half an hour before the scheduled departure. At the meeting point, you will get all the necessary equipment for the tour.
Then, we will drive in the van only about 15 minutes away, to the selected section of the river. In the upper part of the river, where the kayaking Bovec journey will start, it is possible to approach the river at four entry points.
Short course in Soča River kayaking – what will you learn?
When you arrive at the river shore, an experienced instructor will explain the characteristics of water flows and teach you the correct rowing technique, so experienced instructor will teach you everything you need to know. You will learn:
- – how to sit in a kayak,
- – how to hold the paddle
- – how to paddle in calm water and on small rapids
- – how to stop when you paddle into the counterflow and how to get out of it.
- – if you wish, the instructor will also show you the eskimo turn.
Once you master all rowing techniques, you will sit in a kayak and bravely row off down the river. Throughout the Soča River kayaking on the river, our guide will be right beside you.
Sections of the river
Your guide will select the section of the river that is most suitable for your group. He will take into account your experience and knowledge of kayaking. For beginners, he will choose a tranquil section of the river, between gravel bed rivers in Čezsoča all the way to Srpenica or Boka. This tour is about 5 kilometers long.
If you would like to experience greater river rapids, and you also have enough skills, an instructor will extend Bovec kayaking tour to where the tranquil flow of the river turns into an adrenaline journey. No matter where your Bovec kayaking tour finishes, a van will be waiting for you at the exit point, where you will also change your clothes. Then we will drive back to the meeting point in Bovec.
Why is Soča River kayaking so special?
When you silently glide over the river with its magical scenery, you have the most beautiful views of surrounding green nature and white pebble beaches and views of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps, such as Mt. Triglav, Krn, and Kanin. In this land that lies under the Triglav National Park, the river boasts with its deep canyons, gorges, and waterfalls, which makes the whole river descent even more picturesque and attractive.
While rowing down the river we will pass the location where they filmed the battle scenes, featuring in the movie Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. We will also come close to one of the most powerful waterfalls in Slovenia, the Boka waterfall. On the Soča River kayaking journey, we will stop by the wonderful, emerald river pools where you will be able to swim or jump into the water. Here, you might also see a famous marble trout.

Difficulty level
According to the difficulty scale from one to six, the kayaking Bovec tour is between one and two, which means that kayaking Bovec falls at an easy difficulty level. The calmer river section has no fast rapids so you will have the opportunity to learn the basics of this water sport while enjoying the wonderful nature.
The Soča River kayaking is suitable for all generations. This water activity is suitable for anyone who already has experience and knowledge of this sport and also for those who are beginners. Children up to 8 years of age will also enjoy a journey on kayaking Bovec. All participants must know how to swim in order to make the journey safer.
Duration Kayaks
The entire Soča kayaking tour takes about 2 to 3 hours, including a descent on the river, transportation, and preparation (dressing, safety measures and instructions for the descent). The Bovec kayaking tour on the river takes about an hour and a half. During this time, we will make 5 to 10 kilometers. The length of the descent depends on your knowledge, experience, and wishes. If you are a beginner, we will finish the tour before the river section with fast rapids. If you already have some experience, then we will extend the tour and we will also go down after higher rapids.
Kayaks
You can choose between classic kayaks in which you are covered with a cockpit or sit on top kayaks without a cockpit. Sit on top kayaks are easier to handle, more stable and, as such, more suitable for beginners. They are also resistant to impacts. We also offer rowing oars for right-handed and left-handed.
The best time for Soča kayaking
The best time for Soča kayaking tour is from June to September. The summer season starts in the last week of July and lasts until the end of August. Due to higher outside temperatures in the summer, you can refresh and swim in the crystal-clear water. The temperature of the river during the summer months is between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius.
Even so, you can also go down the river during the official opening between March 15 and October 30. In the winter months between November and March, there are no tours available, since the outdoor temperatures are too low.
Permits for navigation on the river allow us to go down the river every day at 9:00, 13:00 and 16:30 hours, during the high season. In the low season, tours are available at 9:00 and 13:00 hours, as the sun goes down earlier than in the summer months.
Water-levels
Bovec kayaking is more abundant with adrenaline in spring and autumn when the river has higher water levels. In case, the water levels are too high, the descent along the river adapts to these conditions. The river changes its water streams, and the fluctuation of water levels gives a completely different experience, so every descent on the river is unique and unrepeatable.
