Helpful information about equipment rental
How to choose the right hiking backpack?
Before selecting a hiking backpack, it’s essential to know what purpose you will use it for. Will you use it for a day hike or a multi-day trekking adventure? Understanding this will help you determine the ideal backpack capacity. Once you have identified the capacity, focus on the features that suit your needs, such as compartments, straps, and waterproofing. Finally, choose a backpack that fits you comfortably to ensure an enjoyable hiking experience.
What are the types of backpacks by capacity?
– Daypacks have a capacity of 10-30 liters and are used for short hikes and casual outings.
– Weekend backpacks with a capacity of 30-50 liters are appropriate for 1 to 3 days of hiking.
Tip: If you are taking a multi-day hike in the Julian Alps, attending some skiing tours, or winter ascent to Triglav Mountain, this is the type we would recommend.
– Extended-trip backpacks have a capacity of 50 liters and more and are used for traveling and winter mountain adventures.
What features should a hiking backpack have?
– The most important features are easily accessible pockets so you can organize your packs easily.
– The second feature is ventilation, which is important, especially for multi-day hikes.
– The third feature is having lots of attachment points that allow you to attach stuff to the backpack and gain some extra space.
– Last but not least, a rain cover because it is always better to be ready for unpredictable weather in the mountains.
– Nowadays, a hydration reservoir is quite practical, too, so you don’t need to stop every time you want a sip of water.
What is the right fit for a hiking backpack?
When choosing the right fit, you need to pay attention to two things:
– the size that fits your torso length
– a comfortable grip on your hips
Most hiking backpacks offer great adjustment features so you can easily find the right one for you.
