How do you choose the right trekking poles?
There are many different designs of trekking poles, and they are categorised based on the type of terrain they are made for. In Slovenia, while exploring the outdoors, you will often encounter diverse terrain, and it all depends on where you are headed. Renting the trekking poles in our office will surely come with some good advice if you share your plans with us.
Choosing the right trekking poles in short:
– Firstly, find the right length for you. Most trekking poles are adjustable in size, so there’s no need to worry about finding the right fit.
– Secondly, know what features you need to have on your trekking poles (adjustability, shock absorption, locking mechanism, wrist straps)
– Last but not least, learn tips and tricks for using trekking poles—plenty are available at our office, where you’re always welcome to stop by.
How to use the trekking poles?
For first-time users, walking with trekking poles can seem a bit clumsy. But after falling into the right rhythm, these will go with you everywhere.
And what is the rhythm? Putting the opposing hiking pole in time with the opposing foot. Basically, it goes like this: right foot/left pole, left foot/right pole.
Sometimes, especially when you need to stabilize your step, you need to put both poles in front of you simultaneously and take two or three steps forward. This is very useful for walking downhill or hiking on steep rocky terrain on the way up.
By renting the trekking poles with us, we will also demonstrate to you the proper use of trekking poles.
