- Untouched nature – extremely picturesque and completely untouched nature outside the well-arranged path, with overhanging cliffs which rise more than 100 meters above the river at certain parts; those are the scenes that captivate each visitor. This is the first reason to visit Vintgar gorge and also the reason that it has become one of the most popular destinations of visitors in Slovenia.
- The first tourist-focused gorge in Slovenia – of all these kind of gorges in Slovenia, the one in Bled was the first one focused on tourists and accessible to all visitors. This did not happen by chance but because of nature which you can at least partially experience through pictures.
- Excellent refreshment in the summer heat – if you visit Bled during the summer season, you will surely cool down in Lake Bled and Bohinj. For a change, however, you can also go on a trip to the Vintgar gorge for a couple of hours, which is naturally cooler thanks to its position between the walls and the cold and clear Radovna River.
- Šum Waterfall – at the very end of a well-organized promenade along the Vintgar gorge, you will find a 13-meter, and you can observe numerous rapids and pools, full of trout.
- Because you do not want to leave Slovenia and then wonder for several years, just how beautiful this gorge is. Do not regret the missed opportunity and go to Vintgar gorge at the earliest opportunity.

About the route
The Vintgar gorge is suitable for all visitors, regardless of their fitness. Length is 3 km (trip in both ways will take you approx. 1 hour) on an easy and well-marked trail. Altitude difference: approx. 80M in both directions

The season depends on weather conditions, that is why Vintgar gorge is open every year from the end of April / early May until the end of October / early November.
It is not recomendable visting Vintgar when it is closed.

Vintgar gorge in Bled is not accessible with strollers and wheelchairs.

How to get to the Vintgar gorge?
Vintgar gorge is an extremely popular destination among visitors in Slovenia. Therefore you can reach it by public transport. From Bled, you can take a tourist bus to the gorge (for only €1). If you are staying in Ljubljana, you also have a shuttle which takes you directly to the Vintgar gorge and back to your hotel.
If you want to drive there with your own car, you need to go to Bled and then follow the signs for Pokljuka at the main crossroads (turn right at the crossroads). After a few kilometers turn for the Vintgar gorge in Spodnje Gorje village. From there, follow the signs for Vintgar gorge, named in Slovene as “Blejski vintgar” or “soteska Vintgar”.
Parking: in the immediate vicinity of the Vintgar gorge, there are enough of parking facilities.
Tips for visiting Vintgar gorge
In order to experience this wonderful gorge in all of its magic, we suggest that you set off as early as possible in the morning or outside of the main season (July, August), since the number of visitors during those periods is significantly smaller. Choose a date when it is officially open.
Before visiting Vintgar gorge check the weather forecast. Especially during the rainy days the trails will be more slippery, and the trip will not be perfect if you do not like rain.
Did you know?
- Vintgar gorge also gave its name to other gorges in Slovenia. In addition to Bled, we also know Iški vintgar, the Bistriški vintgar, the Kamniški vintgar etc.
- Parking in front of the Bled Vintgar is payable: for car 5 EUR,campers 10 EUR, bus 15 EUR. If you are an active person, you can also take a walk from Bled (approx. 5km walking in one direction), and extend your trip.
- That the Vintgar gorge was discovered only in 1891. At that time, it was completely impassable, but due to the rapid growth of tourism in Bled, it was quickly arranged for visitors.
- You can visit Vintgar gorge in daily guided excursions to the Triglav National Park.

The best thing ever. I took my old boss to experience Slovenia in one day. And boy I am happy I chose Altitude Activities to do so. Our tour guide Jerry was awesome, funny and you could just see he knows what he is doing. We went to the canyon of Jermanka and even though there is a drop almost 45m high we felt extremely safe. Overall highly suggest going canyoning with Altitude Activities
