This is one of the more demanding mountain bike trails in Slovenia, ideal for riders who want a longer ride with more climbing, alpine scenery, and a stronger physical challenge. Starting from Bled, the route climbs towards Pokljuka Plateau, a vast high-altitude forest area at around 1,300 metres above sea level, known for its spruce woods, mountain pastures, and quiet roads.
The route passes through Grajska Planina and Rečiška Planina, where you ride past open pastures, shepherds’ huts, and old tracks that were built between the First and Second World Wars. Higher up, the scenery becomes even more rewarding, with wide views towards the highest peaks of the Julian Alps and a real sense of being deep in the mountains.
This trail is best suited to more experienced and physically fit riders. It usually takes around 6 hours, depending on pace, conditions, and stops. The first section includes a steeper climb towards Zgornje Gorje, west of Bled. From there, the route continues towards the edge of Triglav National Park and then climbs further to Zatrnik, a former ski area. The ride continues through the forest towards Mrzli Studenec before looping back towards the starting point.
For riders looking for a full-day MTB route in Slovenia with forest terrain, steady climbing, and a more active mountain setting, Pokljuka is one of the strongest options in the Bled area. If you prefer extra support, navigation help, or a more organised experience, this route can also be done as part of our MTB tours in Slovenia.
