What your snow adventure looks like
We meet in the center of Bled at 8am and drive up to Pokljuka, which takes about 40 minutes on a road that climbs through spruce forest until the valley disappears behind you.
Morning, on skis. We start at the Triglav Pokljuka Sports Centre, on the same tracks the biathlon teams train on. Your guide gets you moving in the first twenty minutes, and after an hour most people are covering ground comfortably. The trails run flat and wide through the forest, so this is a genuinely relaxed way to spend a morning even if you have never had skis on your feet.
Midday, on snowshoes. We leave the groomed tracks and head into the forest, where the snow sits deep and untouched and the only marks are animal tracks. Snowshoeing takes about five minutes to learn. If you can walk, you can do this. It is also the part of the day where people stop talking and just look around.
Afternoon, on ice. We finish at a frozen waterfall or a natural ice formation, with ropes, axes and crampons. Your guide sets up a top rope, so you are secure the whole time and you climb as high as you want to. Some people go once for the story. Some people discover they cannot stop.
The order can shift depending on snow, ice and how the group is feeling. Your guide reads the day and adjusts.

Why Pokljuka
Pokljuka is a forested plateau sitting at around 1,300 metres above Bled, and it is one of the few places you can plan a winter adventure in Slovenia and actually count on the snow being there.
It is best known as the home of the Biathlon World Cup at Rudno polje, which means the ski infrastructure is world class. But walk ten minutes off the trails and it goes completely silent. Thick spruce forest, sinkholes filled with snow, and almost nobody around. Bled is half an hour below you and it feels like another country.
This is also why we run the day up here rather than closer to the lake. Lower down, a mild week can wipe out the snow entirely. Pokljuka holds it.
Who this is for
This is the snow adventure near Bled for people who want a proper day outside without committing to a course, a summit, or a week of lessons.
It suits couples, families with teenagers, and small groups of friends. Fitness matters less than you would think. We move at a steady pace with long breaks, and the guide sets difficulty to whatever the group can handle. We have run this day for complete beginners in their sixties and for people who ended up ice climbing routes they had no business climbing on day one.
If you already ski, snowshoe or climb and want to go deeper into one discipline, one of our single-activity days will serve you better. This day is for breadth.

Not quite what you were looking for?
That is fair, this day is not for everyone. If you already know the one thing you want to do, we run each of them on its own: snowshoeing near Bled, ice climbing in Slovenia, sledding, ski touring and winter hiking in the Julian Alps. And if you are still deciding, have a look at all our winter activities in Bled and pick the day that sounds like yours.
Full refund if the weather turns
Snow is the one thing we cannot promise. So we do not ask you to gamble on it.
If conditions mean we cannot run the day safely, you get 100% of your money back. Not a voucher, not a credit, the actual money. We would rather lose the booking than take you out in bad conditions or hand you a day that is not worth what you paid.
Where possible we will offer you a reschedule or an alternative day first, but the refund is always on the table and it is your choice.
FAQ
Do I need any experience?
No. All three are taught from zero on the day, and most people who book this have never done any of them before. Your guide starts with the basics and builds from there, at whatever speed the group is comfortable with.
What if I only want to do one or two of them?
That is fine, and it is one of the advantages of a private day. Tell your guide in the morning and we will spend longer on what you want and skip the rest. If you already know there is only one thing you are after, we also run [snowshoeing near Bled](https://www.altitude-activities.com/tour/snowshoeing-in-slovenia) and [ice climbing in Slovenia](https://www.altitude-activities.com/tour/ice-climbing-in-slovenia) as separate days.
How fit do I need to be?
Moderately fit is enough. If you can walk for a few hours on uneven ground you will be fine. We move at a steady pace with long breaks, and your guide sets the difficulty to the group rather than the other way around. Tell us about any concerns when you book and we will plan around them.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, from around 10 years old for the skiing and snowshoeing. Ice climbing depends more on the child than the age, so talk to us first and we will tell you honestly. If you are travelling with younger kids, have a look at our [family friendly tours](https://www.altitude-activities.com/slovenia-family-holidays#family-tours).
What happens if there is no snow?
We either move the day to a higher or shadier location, offer you a different date, or refund you in full. It is your call, and the refund is always on the table. Not a voucher or a credit, the actual money back.
What is included in the price?
Everything except your clothes. Skis, boots and poles, snowshoes and trekking poles, ice axes, crampons, helmet, harness and ropes, a licensed guide for the whole day, transport from Bled up to Pokljuka and back, and all trail and parking fees. You bring warm layers and a decent pair of boots, and we send a short list of what to wear when you book.
How long is the day and when does it start?
We meet at 8am in the centre of Bled and you are usually back between 4pm and 6pm, so count on 8 to 10 hours door to door. The drive up to Pokljuka takes about 40 minutes each way.
Can we book for a group of more than 8 people?
Yes, with a second guide. Get in touch with your group size and dates and we will price it for you.
