If you ever find yourself in Bled or anywhere near the Soča Valley and you’re craving a serious adrenaline rush, let me tell you—Fratarica Canyon is the place to go. Extreme Canyoning tour was one of the wildest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Bovec canyoning offers the perfect mix of fun, challenge, and natural beauty. It’s one of those experiences that sticks with you—and it’s easy to see why so many travellers say Bovec canyoning was the highlight of their trip.

Early Start, Scenic Ride to Soca Valley

Our day began early—we met the group at 7:00 AM in front of the Altitude Activities office in Bled. Our guide Žiga greeted us with a smile, and we headed off toward the Fratarica Canyon, located just outside Bovec, in the heart of Triglav National Park.

On the way there, Žiga gave us an overview of the canyoning experience, safety tips, and what we could expect once we were in the water. We made a short coffee stop, then continued through Kranjska Gora, past Lago del Predil in Italy, and finally looped back into Soca Valley Region in Slovenia. The views of the mountains along the way were absolutely stunning—almost worth the trip alone.

Bovec Canyoning: Gearing Up for the Adventure

Once we reached the parking area near the canyon, we changed into thick 7 mm wetsuits, harnesses, helmets, and neoprene socks—trust me, the water is cold, but this gear makes a huge difference. The sun was already high, and we were all sweating, so we couldn’t wait to get into the cool water.

After a 30-minute hike uphill, we arrived at the entrance to the canyon. Before we jumped in, both guides gave us a safety briefing, explained how the rappelling and jumping would work, and made sure we all felt comfortable with the equipment. I’d never done anything like this before, but their calm and confident attitude made it easy to trust them.

Into the Canyon: Slides, Jumps & Rappels

From the moment we entered the water, I felt like I was in a completely different world. The canyon walls towered above us, and the crystal-clear pools were surrounded by mossy rocks and waterfalls. We started with small slides and jumps into natural pools—it was fun, refreshing, and just enough to get the blood pumping.

As we moved deeper into the canyon, the challenges increased. We did a few jumps from 3 to 5 metres, and the guides even set up a zipline over one of the pools for extra fun. Every step of the way, they checked in with each of us to make sure we felt safe and confident. If someone didn’t want to jump, they always offered an easy alternative route.

The Grand Finale: 45-Meter Waterfall Rappel

Then came the highlight of the day—rappelling down a 45-meter waterfall. Standing at the edge and looking down was intimidating, but once I leaned back into the rope and started descending, I felt a mix of fear and pure excitement. The rush of the water, the view from halfway down, and the sound of the group cheering below made it a moment I’ll never forget.

Once at the bottom, we waited for the rest of the group, splashing around, jumping from nearby rocks, and just soaking in the moment. Everyone was buzzing with energy.

The Hike Back and Final Thoughts

After the last section of the canyon, we hiked back to the parking lot, all smiling and chatting like we’d just shared a secret adventure. We changed out of our wetsuits and started the drive back to Bled, exhausted but absolutely thrilled.
This was my first time doing canyoning in Slovenia, and it exceeded every expectation. I felt safe the entire time, even though the activity is called “Extreme Canyoning.” The guides were true professionals, the scenery was unreal, and the physical challenge left me feeling accomplished and alive.

Would I Recommend It?

Absolutely. If you’re moderately fit, can swim, and are up for something different, Fratarica Canyon is one of the best ways to explore the raw beauty of Slovenia. It’s not just an activity—it’s a memory that sticks.

  • Rating: 10/10
  • Experience: Unforgettable
  • Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.

Trip Advisor 5 stars

The best thing ever. I took my old boss to experience Slovenia in one day. And boy I am happy I chose Altitude Activities to do so. Our tour guide Jerry was awesome, funny and you could just see he knows what he is doing. We went to the canyon of Jermanka and even though there is a drop almost 45m high we felt extremely safe. Overall highly suggest going canyoning with Altitude Activities
