Established in 1924, Triglav National Park is Slovenia’s only national park, covering over 880 square kilometers and making it one of the largest national parks in Europe. Centered around Mount Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak, the park is renowned for its natural beauty, which includes 60 lakes, with the serene Lake Bohinj being the largest permanent lake in Slovenia.

Triglav National Park offers several access points, each leading to its most iconic sights. In this guide, we’ll show you how to reach the four most popular attractions within the park, starting from Lake Bled:

  • Vintgar Gorge,
  • Soča Valley,
  • Peričnik Waterfall,
  • Bohinj Lake.

This blog offers tips on public transportation, costs, and a few useful pointers along the way.

TIP: Bled’s public transit system offers multiple departure points, with the main bus station in Bled serving as the most common hub, though you might also find buses departing from stops like Bled Gmajna, Bled Mlino, and Bled Union.

Slovenia Public Transport: Are buses and trains Reliable?

The short answer is yes. In Slovenia, you can choose between the flexibility of renting a car and the convenience of public transport. Based on our experience, public transport not only saves money but also provides a relaxed way to enjoy the stunning scenery of northwestern Slovenia.

Rent a Car vs. Public Transport: what’s better?

If affordability is your top priority, taking the bus is a great choice. However, if you are pressed for time, it is advisable to hire a car, as some connections—especially during the off-season—can be insufficient.

From Bled to Lake Bohinj by Bus (direction Bohinj – Ukanc)

Visiting Lake Bohinj is a must—its crystal-clear waters and majestic mountains create the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day.

Catch a direct bus from the main Bled bus station in the direction of Bohinj Ukanc – it departs approximately every 45 minutes. The bus station closest to the lake, where there are the most activities in Bohinj, is called Bohinjsko jezero/lake.

A one-way ticket costs 3.7 EUR and can be purchased directly on the bus.

From Bled to Vintgar Gorge: Vintgar Shuttle

Vintgar Gorge, a 1.6-kilometer gorge carved by the Radovna River, offers stunning views along its wooden walkways.

Transportation to Vintgar Gorge is facilitated by the VINTGAR Shuttle, which departs from the Central Bled Bus Station. This electric shuttle runs hourly, on the hour, directly to the VINTGAR Visitor Centre, and the journey takes about 20 minutes.

Tickets for this shuttle are included in the Vintgar Gorge All-in-One Pass, which you can purchase at an office located at the main Bled bus station. This pass allows you direct access to the gorge.

TIP: During the summer months (from July 1st to August 31st), these shuttles are often full. Take some extra time just in case. Make sure to check the opening times of the gorge, as it is closed during the winter months.

From Bled to Soča Valley – Bovec by BUS (via Kranjska Gora)

The Soča Valley, known for its bright emerald waters and landscape filled with rapids and waterfalls, including the Boka Waterfall, the tallest in Slovenia at 106 meters, is a must-see.

Traveling from Lake Bled to the heart of Soča Valley (Bovec) by bus is a bit more complicated, as the road over Vršič pass (via Kranjska Gora) is typically closed during winter due to snow. Therefore, the bus connection is available only during the summer months. As there are no direct connections, your journey will involve changing buses along the way.

Start by boarding a bus at your nearest Lake Bled station, which will take you to the Lesce bus station (same as the train station). Buses depart approximately every hour and the journey takes about 10 minutes. The ticket costs €1.90. In Lesce, you must cross the road to catch a bus to Kranjska Gora.

Check the bus schedule here.

TIP: Ask the bus driver if it is possible to buy a direct ticket to Kranjska Gora—it might be cheaper than buying separate tickets for each leg of the journey, including return tickets.

The journey from Lesce to Kranjska Gora takes about 50 minutes. Buses leave approximately every hour. A one-way bus ticket costs €4.70.

TIP: During the summer months, a free shuttle bus circles around Kranjska Gora municipality. Check your options here.

Note that there are only two or three bus departures daily from Kranjska Gora to Bovec, traveling through the Vršič mountain pass, and this route is only available during the summer months.

TIP: We recommend buying tickets at least one hour in advance to save on costs. The price for an online one-way ticket is €1.30.

From Bled to Soča Valley – Bovec by Bus + Train (Via Bohinjska Bistrica)

Buses depart approximately every hour from the main Bled bus station or Bled Mlino station. After a 30-minute ride, you will arrive at Bohinjska Bistrica. A one-way ticket costs €3.50.

Check the bus schedule here.

/TIP/ If you are staying near the train station in Bled, consider taking a train to Bohinjska Bistrica.

Upon arrival in Bohinjska Bistrica, it’s approximately a 12-minute walk to the train station, covering a distance of 850 meters.

Check the route on the map.

Board a train that travels through a tunnel to the Soča region. The journey to Most na Soči takes about 40 minutes. The ticket costs €3.10.

Buses depart semi-regularly from Most na Soči to Bovec. The journey takes about 10 minutes to Tolmin, where you may need to change buses for Bovec or continue on a direct line to Bovec, lasting about 1 hour in total. The ticket costs €4.50.

From Bled to Peričnik Waterfall by BUS

Another exciting option is a trip to Peričnik Waterfall. In this case, you will need to switch several buses. First, take a bus from Bled to Lesce, as described above.

This journey takes 34 minutes and costs 3.50 EUR. From there, during the summer, a local shuttle service will get you to the waterfall – direction VRATA VALLEY. Please note that this shuttle service is available only during the summer.

The best thing ever. I took my old boss to experience Slovenia in one day. And boy I am happy I chose Altitude Activities to do so. Our tour guide Jerry was awesome, funny and you could just see he knows what he is doing. We went to the canyon of Jermanka and even though there is a drop almost 45m high we felt extremely safe. Overall highly suggest going canyoning with Altitude Activities
