Bled Tours: Best Triglav National Park Trip. One Day Trip starting from Bled, Slovenia.

This one-day Triglav National Park Itinerary takes you through the most iconic highlights of Slovenia’s Julian Alps, starting with the impressive Peričnik Waterfall, followed by panoramic views of the Špik Mountain Range and a peaceful stop at the emerald Zelenci Springs. The journey continues over the scenic Vršič Pass, offering dramatic alpine landscapes, before descending into the Soča Valley for an adventure stop in Bovec. The day wraps up with a refreshing swim at a tranquil alpine lake, giving you the perfect blend of short hikes, scenic drives, and unforgettable nature experiences—all in a single, well-crafted route.

Why This Is the Best Triglav National Park Itinerary for One Day?

We’ve put a lot of thought into what a perfectly spent day in Triglav National Park should look like for travelers. After nearly 10 years of refining and improving the route, we created this Triglav National Park Itinerary. Here’s why we think you’ll love it:

  • Incredible variety in one day – waterfalls, emerald springs, mountain passes, alpine lakes, and river valleys, all within short driving distances.
  • Lots of short hikes – plenty of easy walks and quick trails to stretch your legs between driving sections.
  • Adventure stop in Bovec – the perfect place to book exciting activities on the Soča River, such as rafting or canyoning.
  • Swim at an alpine lake – end your day at a crystal-clear alpine lake where you can relax and take a refreshing swim.
  • Big views with minimal effort – access iconic landscapes without long or difficult hikes.

Now that you understand what the Triglav National Park Itinerary is all about, let’s explore the first of seven essential stops on your one-day road trip. We begin with one of Slovenia’s hidden natural gems—Peričnik Waterfall, a dramatic cascade you can actually walk behind.

#1 Walk Behind the Mighty Peričnik Waterfall

Your Triglav National Park Itinerary begins with a scenic drive through the Radovna Valley, known for its traditional Alpine farming and old homesteads that provide a glimpse into Slovenia’s rural heritage. You’ll soon reach the village of Mojstrana, where the Slovenian Alpine Museum offers an excellent option for a rainy day, showcasing the country’s rich mountaineering history.

From here, a short drive through the Vrata Valley brings you to the spectacular Peričnik Waterfall, one of Slovenia’s tallest. To reach Peričnik Waterfall, you’ll take a short hike of approximately 15 minutes. The waterfall features two cascades—the lower falls from a height of 52 meters (170 feet), and the upper cascade adds another 16 meters (52 feet).

Please note: Peričnik Waterfall and the Vrata Valley now follow a new access system. For the latest 2025 details, check our Peričnik Waterfall Guide.

What sets Peričnik apart is the thrilling opportunity to walk behind the lower cascade, offering a unique perspective of the powerful water. In winter, the waterfall often freezes, creating incredible ice formations admired by climbers.

After just a 20-minute drive, you’ll arrive at one of the best viewpoints in the Julian Alps—the stunning Špik Mountain Range.

#2 Špik Mountain Range – A Photographer’s Dream

Next, the route leads to Gozd Martuljek, a quaint alpine village offering stunning views of the Špik Mountain Range, part of the Julian Alps. Mount Špik, the highest peak at 2,472 meters (8,110 feet), boasts a steep, pyramid-shaped summit that mirrors the classic image of alpine mountains. This rugged landscape is a dream for photographers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

The Špik Mountain Range also holds historical significance. It was first successfully climbed in 1882 by Julius Kugy, a renowned mountaineer and botanist who played a pivotal role in exploring the Julian Alps.

On the image: Standing at 2,472 meters, Mount Špik is a must-see for its steep, pyramid shape that mirrors the classic image of alpine mountains.

This is also the perfect place to grab a coffee at the Triangel Hotel and soak in the view. From here, your journey continues to the magical Zelenci Springs—often called the emerald heart of Triglav National Park.

#3 Zelenci Nature Reserve – River Sava Springs

From the parking area near the main road, it’s a short 5-minute walk through the forest to reach the springs. As the source of the Sava Dolinka River, Zelenci’s waters are famous for their vivid green hue, thanks to the mineral-rich composition of the springs. The surrounding marshlands provide a striking contrast to the crystal-clear waters, making it one of Slovenia’s most scenic natural sites.

The water at Zelenci remains a constant 6°C (43°F) year-round. Tiny bubbles rising from the sandy lakebed create the appearance of “boiling,” adding to the springs’ otherworldly charm. As part of a protected nature reserve, Zelenci is home to a wide range of wildlife, including rare birds and amphibians.

For a comprehensive overview of the best time to visit and what to expect at the Zelenci Nature Reserve, read our Zelenci Springs guide.

Next, you’ll briefly cross the border into Italy to visit the peaceful Lake Predil, nestled in the Julian Alps.

#4 Lake Predil – A Historic Detour to Italy

This glacier-fed lake is the second-largest in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and is surrounded by towering peaks, making it a tranquil spot for relaxation.

Lake Predil also has historical significance as a strategic location during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1809, the Battle of Tarvisio took place here, where a small Austrian garrison heroically resisted a much larger French force. Monuments and remnants of fortifications around the lake stand as reminders of this event.

From Lake Predil, Triglav National Park Itinerary leads to the famous Soča River, often called the “Emerald Beauty” due to its crystal-clear green waters.

#5 Soča River & Great Soča Gorge: The Pearl of Triglav National Park

The unique color comes from limestone and mineral deposits that the river collects along its path. The Soča remains one of Europe’s cleanest rivers, supporting a variety of wildlife, including the rare and protected marble trout.

For adventure lovers, the Soča River is a hub of outdoor activities. From white-water rafting to kayaking, the river offers something for thrill-seekers of all levels. The emerald waters of the Soča are also famous in cinema, appearing in films like The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

If you want an insider tip on the best place to swim near the Soča Gorge, as well as the top viewing and photo spots, check out our Great Soča Gorge guide.

As part of the 7 Alpine Wonders tour, guests have the option to participate in adrenaline-pumping activities like white-water rafting or ziplining over the valley.

Next you’ll ascend the scenic Vršič Pass, the highest mountain pass in Slovenia at 1,611 meters (5,285 feet).

#6 Vršič Pass – Drive Over Slovenia’s Highest Mountain Pass

The winding road, connecting Kranjska Gora with the Soča Valley, features 50 hairpin turns and offers stunning views of the Julian Alps and a rich alpine flora.

Built by Russian prisoners of war during World War I, the pass holds a significant historical legacy. A small Russian chapel stands as a memorial to those who died during its construction, adding a poignant element to the journey.

Driving over the Vršič Mountain Pass is a beautiful experience, but it can also be stressful for drivers, so make sure to read our guide to Vršič Pass opening times, parking, and the best stops along the route (interactive map).

From this scenic route, travelers can experience the full majesty of the surrounding peaks, valleys, and rugged alpine terrain, making it an unforgettable highlight of the 7 Alpine Wonders tour.

The tour concludes at the serene Lake Jasna, just outside Kranjska Gora.

Legend of the Pagan Girl: As you drive through Vršič Pass, keep an eye out for the rock formation of Ajdovska Deklica (the Pagan Girl) on Mount Prisojnik. The Legend of the Pagan Girl, whose face is carved into the rocks of the Vršič Pass, tells the story of a young giantess who could foresee the future. One day, she predicted that a newborn boy in the valley would grow up to slay the giants. Her words angered the other giant women, who believed her prophecy had doomed their kind. As punishment, they turned her to stone, freezing her sorrowful face into the mountainside for eternity.

#7 Lake Jasna – Reflections of Alpine Beauty

The tour concludes at the serene Lake Jasna, just outside Kranjska Gora. This artificial lake, fed by the Velika Pišnica and Mala Pišnica rivers, is surrounded by stunning views of the Julian Alps. Its calm, mirror-like surface reflects the surrounding mountains, making it a popular spot for photographers.

One of the lake’s unique features is the bronze statue of Zlatorog (the Golden Horn), a mythical white chamois from Slovenian folklore. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake, take a refreshing swim, or rent a paddleboard for a peaceful ride.

This marks the end of your journey. You can either head straight back to Bled or enjoy a relaxing dinner by the lake before you go—there are some excellent fine-dining options in the area. On your return to Bled, you can take the highway if you prefer a faster and more direct route.

You’re probably wondering whether this trip is easy to do on your own. That’s why we’ve put together five key points to consider when deciding between going solo or joining a group tour.

Going Solo or Joining a Group Tour to Triglav National Park – Which Is Better?

It depends on your preferences. If you enjoy independent travel and have a car, you can easily explore the 7 Alpine Wonders on your own. However, there are benefits to joining a guided tour:

  • Stress-Free Travel: Let a professional guide handle the navigation. Vršič Pass, with its many hairpin turns, can be challenging for inexperienced drivers, especially during peak tourist season.
  • Save on Fees: Joining a group tour eliminates the hassle of parking and other hidden fees, making your trip more budget-friendly.
  • Meet New People: Group tours offer the chance to meet like-minded travelers. Groups are small, usually no more than 8 people, allowing for a personalized experience. You can also opt for a private tour for an even more tailored experience.
  • Learn from Local Guides: Friendly, knowledgeable guides will share insights into Slovenia’s culture and natural wonders, adding depth to your experience.
  • Optional Adventure Activities: If you’re craving adrenaline, the tour can include optional activities like ziplining in Bovec or rafting on the Soča River—guaranteed to be highlights of your trip!

Exploring the 7 Alpine Wonders through this Triglav National Park Itinerary is one of the most unforgettable ways to experience Slovenia’s natural beauty in a single day. Whether you choose to follow this route independently or join a guided group, the journey delivers a perfect blend of adventure, scenery, and authentic Alpine charm. No matter how you decide to travel, one thing is certain—you’ll leave with memories of Triglav National Park that will stay with you long after the road trip ends.

The best thing ever. I took my old boss to experience Slovenia in one day. And boy I am happy I chose Altitude Activities to do so. Our tour guide Jerry was awesome, funny and you could just see he knows what he is doing. We went to the canyon of Jermanka and even though there is a drop almost 45m high we felt extremely safe. Overall highly suggest going canyoning with Altitude Activities
