TOP 6 Rock climbing spots near Bled

1. Just 5 minutes’ drive from Bled there is a very popular rock climbing spot Iglica in town of Bohinjska Bela. The extensive climbing area of Bohinjska Bela with well-equipped routes counts amongst the best in Slovenia. The excellent rock and routes of different grades attract more and more climbers. After periods of rain the face dries quickly. It is obligatory to park by the church and approach climbing spot by foot after a 10-20 minutes’ walk.

2. About 10 minutes’ drive from Bled in the direction towards Vintgar Gorge there is a village Gorje with a small but very nice climbing area appropriate for beginner and intermediate levels. The crags have an explicitly local character with the majority of the routes being in the easier grades. You can park by the road, just next to the climbing spot. There is a nice shadow on the wall in the afternoon which is very enjoyable especially in the summer time.

3. The crag below the village Bodešče is situated in a quiet and easily accessible place along the Sava River. However it is necessary to get used to the vertical slabs of good rock and the usual upside down handholds. It requires more than just strength to climb high. Great for training technical skills and footwork. Not recommended for total beginners but rather for the intermediate-advanced level climbers. After the rain, the wall dries quickly.

4. From Bled heading towards Bohinj direction you arrive to village Kupljenik after about 10 minutes drive (positioned right opposite to Bohinjska Bela). The face of Kupljenik is easily approachable and offers a number of well protected vertical or slightly overhanging routes. Not recommended for total beginners but rather for the intermediate to advanced level.

5. About 20 km from Bled toward Bohinj there is a climbing area in a village named Bitnje. The imposing face above the village offers many shorter routes on good rock, suitable for both beginners and those climbing higher grades. In summer time it is recommended to visit climbing area after 4 pm to avoid the heat.

6. Relatively big climbing area Bohinj Bellevue is situated right next to Lake Bohinj (30 minutes drive from Bled). There are many possibilities on varied rock for beginners, for family visits or warming up on the crags. The climbing area itself is very lovely, well equipped, surrounded with quiet and peaceful nature, where you can have picnic or just rest in a nice shadow, while others are climbing. Beautiful spot which you cannot miss, if you are headed to climb in Bled region.
