3 reasons to go Snowshoeing in Triglav National Park

  1. Unique Experience: Unlike regular hiking, snowshoeing is a unique experience; you can only do it in several regions and only in the winter. And now is the chance!
  2. Vicinity of the Triglav National park: It is the largest natural resort in Slovenia and is right before your nose.
  3. Take great pictures: Snowy white landscape is the perfect background for photos.

What to expect?

The best time for going on a winter hike is in the early mornings, as snow-covered alpine nature is most beautiful in the morning when the sun is high in the sky. We will meet at 7 AM in front of the Altitude Activities office in Bled (Ljubljanska cesta 1). Alternatively, we can pick you up at your accommodation.

At the starting point of the snowshoeing Slovenia tour, you will get snowshoes and hiking poles. You can easily fasten the snowshoes to hiking boots and pull them tight with safety straps. Snowshoes are meant for walking on a thicker snow blanket since the larger bottom surface prevents sinking deep into the snow, and metal cogs on the sides prevent slipping on more icy terrain. Hiking poles will help you when walking uphill and downhill.

We will drive to a tour’s starting point–Pokljuka, the highest mountain plateau in Slovenia. We regularly customize the snowshoeing in Triglav National Park according to the snow conditions to find the perfect Alpine winter idyll.

The guide will teach you some basic techniques for hiking in snowshoes. You will learn how to climb properly and descend on different terrains, walk in an arch or circle, and cross a slope. You will learn these skills very quickly. The guide will ensure your safety along the trails covered in snow.

The hike starts at 1400m highs. Our journey upward will begin with a hike through a spruce winter forest and diverse terrain across the plateau reaching a vast mountain pasture with picturesque shepherd’s cottages scattered all over the place.

The Pokljuka plateau in the Julian Alps is incredibly wonderful when covered in snow. At Zajavorniki mountain pasture, we will have beautiful views of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps.

After a while, we will pass the forest line and reach a mountain hut for a short break. Then we will continue on the snow-covered slopes of the mountain. In approximately three hours, we will reach the summit and see that all the effort was absolutely worth it. The view of the snow-covered Triglav and surrounding mountains and valleys is one you definitely won’t forget.

On our way back, we will stop again at the mountain hut and have a typical Slovenian mountain lunch.

If you’re looking for an authentic winter mountaineering experience, look no further and book Snowshoeing in Triglav National Park.

“The first rays of the sun fall on the mountain walls and paint them red—the snow sparkles like crystals in the sunlight. Virgin white snow bleeps under your footsteps, which is the only thing you hear. You breathe in the fresh air and breathe out cold smoke.” – Alice, 32, on her Snowshoeing in Triglav National Park experience.

Don’t worry; everyone can do it, even kids. With a few technical instructions, you will soon conquer snowshoeing and move around confidently, enjoying the freedom.

Is snowshoeing demanding?

The choice is yours. We will adjust the activity to your physical fitness. Snowshoeing in Triglav National Park is also suitable for people in poor shape, as the climbs and descents are not tricky. We will adjust the hiking speed to your abilities, the complexity of the terrain and the snow.

Do I need a pair of winter pants?

Yes. Winter activities are most comfortable when wearing suitable water-resistant and warm pants like the ones for skiing. We can provide you with proper clothes if needed.

Yes. Just call us one day before the trip, so that we can prepare the equipment.

Do I need to pack a lunch?

You don’t need to. If you have particular dietary demands like gluten-free, we advise you to pack your lunch since mountain cabins usually only have a few options.

We will stop for approximately 30 minutes.
