7. Day – Slovenian coast with Piran, Sečovlje Salt Pans and Strunjan Moon Bay

You can spend the seventh day on a road trip in Slovenia on the Slovenian coast, in the relaxed Mediterranean climate along the Adriatic Sea. Visit medieval Piran on the cape and explore the former fishing and saltern town along narrow and cobblestone streets. You can spend a day on the road trip in Slovenia on the Slovenian coast in one of the most beautiful parts of the natural seashore in Strunjan Nature Reserve. Climb the 80 meters high flysch cliff, the highest cliff on the Adriatic coast. From here you will have stunning views of the Gulf of Trieste, Grado in Italy and the Moon Bay below the cliff.

8. Day – Ljubljana, the vibrant capital city

On the eighth day of a road trip in Slovenia, return from the Slovenian coast to the hinterland and visit the capital Ljubljana. Take a stroll through the old city center or rent a city bike. You can also spend an evening at one of the bars or nightclubs, as Ljubljana is known for its vibrant nightlife. Take a stroll through the beautiful castle park with centuries-old and indigenous tree species. A kind of attraction is observing the swans on the Krka River. Today, Otočec Castle has been remodeled into a boutique hotel with a castle restaurant with excellent cuisine.

After visiting an Otočec Castle, you can drive to the idyllic town of Kostanjevica na Krki, also known as the “Venice of Lower Carniola“. You can spend a half-day of a road trip in Slovenia in a town, dating to the 13th century. The village is located on an artificial small island, surrounded by the Krka River. Due to its rich history, the old part of the town has been declared as a cultural monument. Take a walk around architectural and artistic monuments such as:

  • The Romanesque Church of St. Jakob and the Church of St. Nicholas with frescoes
  • Religionist or Tercialski bridge designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik
  • The remains of Kostanjevica Castle

10. Day – a visit to Ptuj town with rich cultural heritage

You can spend the last day of an unforgettable road trip in Slovenia in the northwestern Pannonian part of the country in Ptuj. Take a stroll through the old town and discover many sights that reflect the city’s rich history. These include the Minorite monastery and the Dominican monastery.

Climb up to the almost 1,000-year-old Ptuj Castle, standing on a hill, and enjoy breathtaking views of Ptuj Lake, the largest artificial lake in the country. There is also a Regional Museum in the castle, where you can see various collections of former castle objects. If you are in town during the famous carnival in February, dress up in a masquerade costume and recall the arrival of spring with kurenti, traditional carnival masks from Ptuj.

In Ptuj you can also visit the famous Ptuj wine cellar in the cellars of the Minorite monastery. Ptuj has a long vineyard tradition with planted vines on the hills of Haloze and Slovenske Gorice. If you would like to spend the last day of a road trip in Slovenia actively, you can climb the Ptujska Hill, which is 10 kilometers away from the city. At the top of the hill stands the mighty Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary, consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI.
